Al Harrington has outplayed Jamal Crawford since the two swapped coasts earlier this week, but don't for a minute think the Warriors regret making the move.
The Warriors know they'll see a fired-up Harrington when they visit New York on Saturday to conclude a five-game trip. And you know what? They couldn't care less. Nothing personal, but Harrington simply did not take to Don Nelson's small-ball philosophy. He's not the first. We all remember Chris Webber's reaction after spending his rookie season with Nelson.
The Warriors can only hope Crawford responds differently. Most little guys do.
Crawford has struggled shooting the ball since joining the Warriors, going 15-for-41. No doubt, that's partly because he's to trying to establish himself as a good teammate in his getting-to-know-you days with Golden State.
Crawford has 19 assists in his three games for the Warriors. That's nice, but frankly Nelson would rather he spotted up behind the 3-point line and did more scoring.
Harrington didn't enjoy that role. Crawford has yet to embrace it, perhaps because regular point guard Monta Ellis is out of action following ankle surgery, leaving a bit of a void in the ball-distribution department. Warriors fans might have to wait until Ellis returns to see the real Crawford. Nelson would just as soon it happened earlier -- like in his New York homecoming.
Nobody in Oakland would like to see Harrington get the last laugh.
CAVALIERS 112, WARRIORS 97: The only positive about the Warriors' 0-4 road misadventure is they've been so far behind in the fourth quarter on two occasions, they've been able to rest their starters for the remainder of the trip. Such was the case again Friday in Cleveland, where the Warriors lost by 15 points despite outscoring the Cavaliers by 11 in a garbage-time fourth quarter. Only Jamal Crawford, who is trying to learn the Warriors' schemes, played more than 32 minutes among the Golden State starters. It should set up the team for a spirited effort in a winnable game in the trip finale Saturday at New York.
