Golden State Warriors Getting Inside 2008-12-02

Golden State Warriors Getting Inside 2008-12-02
There's nothing fun about losing, but it sure can be entertaining.

The Warriors treated another near-sellout crowd to nearly three hours of edge-of-your-seat basketball Monday night, only to lose in the end and leave the faithful wondering if it was time well spent.

If history can be trusted, the memories of the good times will outweigh the bad, and the usual 18,000-plus will grab their gold T-shirts and return to the Oracle Arena in Oakland at the next opportunity.

One season after selling out a majority of their games for a team that didn't make the playoffs, the Warriors are seeing a few empty seats in these tough economic times -- but not nearly as many as you might expect being that they quickly have established themselves as one of the worst teams in the league.

It's been a roller-coaster ride, one Warriors fans would love to see end. Yet to a certain extent they have come to enjoy the ride.

After disappointing a big crowd in the opener against New Orleans, the Warriors nearly sold out their next Oakland date for a win over Denver.

But then came a home loss to lowly Memphis, one that stamped this year's team as lottery material. Still, more than 17,000 showed up to see another bottom-feeder, Minnesota, at the next opportunity, and witnessed a thrilling overtime win.

A home loss to Detroit was followed by a win over Portland, which drew 18,284 in a building that holds 19,500.

That preceded an exciting, yet heart-breaking, loss to Chicago. And five road losses after that, a seriously tail-spinning club returned home to face the Heat on Monday.

Once again, Oracle Arena was nearly packed. And once again, the ride ended with a thud.

But when the Bucks visit Oakland next week, you can bet the faithful will be back. And entertained again, even if the home team loses. Again.

HEAT 130, WARRIORS 129 (OT): Losing to the resurgent Heat is certainly no embarrassment, but the Warriors had to do almost everything wrong late in regulation and down the stretch of overtime to allow this one to slip away.

If Jamal Crawford had caught a Dwyane Wade airball with 10 seconds remaining in overtime and the Warriors up by three instead of fumbling it out of bounds, the Warriors might have won.

If Corey Maggette had fouled long-range shooting specialist Chris Quinn on the ensuing inbounds pass instead of allowing him to catch and shoot a game-tying 3-pointer, the Warriors might have won.

If Andris Biedrins had inbounded the ball carefully after the hoop instead of throwing it right to Michael Beasley, the Warriors might have won.

If Crawford had made the buzzer-beating seven-foot runner instead of seeing it roll out, the Warriors might have won.

Instead, the Warriors walked away with a second consecutive heart-breaking home loss and seventh defeat in a row in all.
