Let the guessing game begin.
Warriors fans trying to predict the night on which Don Nelson becomes the all-time winningest coach in NBA history now have a schedule upon which to project their thoughts. Nelson needs 24 wins to surpass Lenny Wilkens for the top spot on the list. If the Warriors are able to play close to .500 ball, that would place the historic night somewhere in late January or early February.
And if that's the case, chances are the home fans will get a chance to see it first-hand as the Warriors play 18 of 24 at Oracle Arena in Oakland between Jan. 8 (their 35th game) and Feb. 27 (their 58th game).
Three games in that stretch would be intriguing history-makers.
The Warriors' 38th game of the season is at home against the Bucks on Jan. 15. Almost half of Nelson's wins (540 of 1,309) came as coach of the Bucks from 1976-87.
Almost three weeks later, the Warriors will face the Mavericks twice in a six-day stretch -- at Dallas (Game 48) on Feb. 2 and in Oakland (Game 50) on Feb. 8. Nelson, who won 329 games as coach of the Mavericks from 1997-2005, has an ongoing feud with Dallas owner -- and former boss -- Mark Cuban.
