Golden State Warriors notebook: Raja Bell will undergo surgery on left wrist

Golden State Warriors notebook: Raja Bell will undergo surgery on left wrist CLEVELAND Warriors guard Raja Bell, who was acquired Monday from Charlotte in the Stephen Jackson trade, has decided to have surgery to repair the torn ligament in his left wrist, but he doesn't know how long he will be out. Depending on the severity of the tear, which can be determined only during surgery, he could be out a month or five months.

Coach Don Nelson said the Warriors were aware that Bell could miss the season. Considering he's a free agent after this year, it may mean he never plays a game for the Warriors .

"It's a good thing to get it taken care of," Nelson said before Tuesday's 114-108 loss at Cleveland.

Bell said he made the decision days ago, before he got traded to the Warriors . He said he told Charlotte's trainers he thought he needed to have the surgery because he was too limited by his injured wrist.

He opted against having surgery earlier in the season because of the possibility he could miss the season. But after playing five games, it was clear to him he needed surgery. He could shoot, but not much else.

"My game requires me to be able to grab and push, the unsavory things," said Bell, who will meet Monday in Charlotte with an orthopedics. "Those are the things that I think make teams want me. So it was weighed heavy on my mind."

Warriors general manager Larry Riley said he is happy with the trade even if it turns out Bell can't play. Forward Vladimir Radmanovic, the flexibility that comes with the $21 million of cap space, plus the departure of disgruntled swingman Jackson, are enough to make Riley pleased. If Bell can play, that is icing on the cake.

"I'm happy with the trade," Riley said. "I know what I went through. I know what the market was. And I like Raja Bell. If he can play, it's a plus for us. We will determine in the next few days what is going to happen with him."

Radmanovic played 34 minutes in his Warriors debut, the most time he's logged since the second game of the season with Charlotte, when he played almost 37 minutes against New York. He didn't play 34 minutes at any point during 2008-09.

Radmanovic had 11 points on 5-for-12 shooting. He made his first three shots, then went cold. He said he loved the freedom to look for his shot.

"As a shooter," he said, "you have to take advantage of that. Obviously, missed some shots. But I'll get some rest, work on it, and make more."

All seven Warriors who played scored in double figures. Center Mikki Moore, making his fifth consecutive start, had 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting with four assists. He's 11-for-12 from the field over his past two games with seven assists.

The Warriors did not fly in forward Devean George as originally planned, as Bell and center Ronny Turiaf dressed, giving the team more than the eight required players in uniform. Guard Speedy Claxton has not been with the team as he was given permission to work out and rehab on his own.
