Golden State Warriors Notes, Quotes 2009-09-18

Golden State Warriors Notes, Quotes 2009-09-18--Ronny Turiaf's successful summer stint for the French national team ended Sept. 17 with an 86-66 loss to Spain in the quarterfinals of the European Championships in Poland.

The Warriors' backup center had 12 points and four rebounds in the game, but was badly outplayed by Spanish star Pau Gasol of the Lakers, who poured in 28 points.

Turiaf had some big games in helping lead France into the quarterfinals. He recorded double-doubles against Belgium (14 points, 12 rebounds), Germany (15 points, 14 rebounds) and Russia (18 points, 14 rebounds).

--The Warriors currently have a full roster of 15 players with guaranteed contracts for the 2009-10 season, which has hampered their ability to get quality free agents to attend training camp. Summer-league star Cartier Martin, for example, opted for a sure thing, a deal with Benetton Treviso of the Italian League, rather than take his chances with Golden State.

The Warriors were, however, able to get at least a couple of guys to agree to act as virtual tackling dummies at camp. Diamon Simpson, a star at nearby St. Mary's College, and Shaun Pruitt of Illinois both have accepted training-camp invitations. Simpson is a forward, Pruitt a center.

--The Warriors family suffered a loss in September when their team dentist, Dr. Derric DesMarteau, died as a result of cancer. He was 58.

DesMarteau, who specialized in cosmetic and sports dentistry, was a courtside fixture at Warriors games.

"Dr. DesMarteau was a unique, intelligent and well-rounded individual who was committed to being the absolute best in both his personal and professional life," Warriors president Bob Rowell told the Oakland Tribune. "He served our organization well for over a decade and had a special bond with many of our players over the years.

"He'll be sorely missed by everyone, including those of us in the Warriors organization who benefitted from his friendship, presence and expertise."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I've talked to him. I don't anticipate any problems." -- Don Nelson, reacting to Stephen Jackson's published trade demand to the Oakland Tribune.
