Golden State Warriors Roster Report 2008-10-30

Golden State Warriors Roster Report 2008-10-30
ROTATION: Starters -- Point guard DeMarcus Nelson, Shooting guard Stephen Jackson, Small forward Corey Maggette, Power forward Al Harrington, Center Andris Biedrins. Bench -- Guard C.J. Watson, Guard-Forward Kelenna Azubuike, Center Ronny Turiaf.

PLAYER NOTES:

--G Stephen Jackson got the defensive assignment on Hornets star Chris Paul most of the night and seemed to tire out the little guy, harassing him into 2-for-8 shooting in the fourth quarter. Jackson got a little tired himself while going the distance (48 minutes), missing seven of his last eight shots to finish 9-for-23.

--F Corey Maggette gave the team a new look with his ability to get to the free-throw line. Traditionally one of the worst teams in the NBA from the line -- both in terms of quality and quantity -- the Warriors could be different this year due almost exclusively to the ex-Clipper, who went 9-for-10 from the stripe in his Golden State debut en route to a team-high 27 points.

--G-F Kelenna Azubuike picked up where he left off in the preseason, contributing 17 points off the bench. After averaging 8.5 points per game last year, the NBA Developmental League graduate was the league's eighth-leading scorer during the preseason.

--C Andris Biedrins lived up to his lucrative, long-term contract signed over the summer by registering 14 points and 12 rebounds. The left-hander ranked 26th in the league with 27 double-doubles last season.

MEDICAL WATCH:

--G Monta Ellis (ankle) is likely to miss the first two months of the season after surgery was required to repair the damage suffered in a moped accident. The Warriors have suspended Ellis for the first 26 games (through Dec. 17) of the regular season for having violated the terms of his contract.

--G C.J. Watson (elbow) wore an elbow brace to secure a torn ligament suffered during the preseason. Watson played just two minutes off the bench.

--F Corey Maggette (hamstring) played 39 minutes after having sat out some practices last week while resting his strained hamstring.
