Golden State Warriors Roster Report 2009-08-11
PLAYER NEWS:

--F Jermareo Davidson was not retained by the Warriors after a subpar performance in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. The two-year veteran had the best game of his NBA career March 6 against Detroit, recording an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double. But the 6-foot-10 power forward hit only four of his 16 shots in Las Vegas and had more turnovers (five) than field goals (four). The Warriors allowed him to become a free agent after the summer league ended.

--C Jamal Sampson moved a step closer to getting an invitation to Warriors training camp with Davidson's dismissal. The center who played collegiately at the nearby University of California outplayed Davidson in Las Vegas, outrebounding him 12-11 despite playing just three games compared to his rival's five. The Warriors currently have centers Andris Biedrins and Ronny Turiaf on the roster, but Biedrins' name has come up in trade talks, as has backup power forward Brandan Wright. If either is moved, a spot could open for the five-year NBA veteran.

--G Acie Law was going to have a tough enough time earning playing time in a crowded backcourt, but his performance in Las Vegas sure didn't help things. Acquired as part of the Jamal Crawford deal with Atlanta in June, Law was limited to 8.5 minutes per game in the summer league because he was deemed a bit out of shape. He showed no long-distance shooting ability (0-for-3 on three-pointers) and had more turnovers (seven) than assists (six).

MEDICAL WATCH:

--F Jermareo Davidson (surgery on stress fracture in left foot) has been working out at the Warriors' practice facility in Oakland and appears well on his way to being fully healthy for the start of training camp in October.

DRAFT PICKS:

Stephen Curry, G, 6-3, Davidson (first round) -- Heady player whose father, Dell, played 16 seasons in the NBA ... Dead-eye perimeter shooter who demonstrated exceptional ball-distribution skills last season as a junior.
