Golden State Warriors Roster Report 2009-09-04
PLAYER NEWS:

--G C.J. Watson is sending conflicting signals about the terms of his possible return to the Warriors. The restricted free agent sent his fans a Twitter saying he would probably accept the team's three-year, $5.4 million offer. But at the same time, the Oakland Tribune quoted sources as insisting Watson, a valuable backup point guard who averaged 9.5 points and 2.7 assists last season, was leaning toward accepting a one-year "qualifying" offer from the Warriors of slightly more than $1 million, which would allow him to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

--G Monta Ellis was summoned to Dallas for a sit-down with general manager Larry Riley and coach Don Nelson, sources told the Oakland Tribune. The purpose of the meeting was to explain how the drafting of guard Stephen Curry would impact Ellis' position next season and moving forward. Ellis, who missed most of last season following ankle surgery, had been expected to be the franchise's point guard of the future after Baron Davis left in free agency. But some see point guard as Curry's best position, which could push Ellis back to shooting guard. Ellis spends much of his off-season in his native Mississippi.

--C Ronny Turiaf traveled to Washington, D.C., in August to announce a partnership between his Heart to Heart Foundation and the American Society of Echocardiography. Turiaf underwent open-heart surgery in 2005 after an enlarged aortic root in his heart was discovered during an echocardiogram.

MEDICAL WATCH:

--F Jermareo Davidson (surgery on stress fracture in left foot) has been working out at the Warriors' practice facility in Oakland and appears well on his way to being fully healthy for the start of training camp in October.

DRAFT PICKS:

Stephen Curry, G, 6-3, Davidson (first round) -- Heady player whose father, Dell, played 16 seasons in the NBA ... Dead-eye perimeter shooter who demonstrated exceptional ball-distribution skills last season as a junior.
