Harrington gets booed, New York gets waxed

Harrington gets booed, New York gets waxed
In the middle of booing Al Harrington for the zillionth time Tuesday, the Oracle Arena faithful did an about-face. Harrington had just been stripped by Jamal Crawford in the fourth quarter, and the Warriors were suddenly off and running.

Crawford zipped downcourt and flipped an over-the-shoulder pass to Corey Maggette, who threw down a thunderous one-handed dunk.

More than give Golden State a 19-point lead en route to a 144-127 romp over the Knicks, it gave Warriors fans another reason to razz Harrington and cheer the team he forced a divorce from.

"It's not me versus Golden State, it's the Knicks versus Golden State," said Harrington, who expected to be booed. "I just wanted to have fun and try to win the game tonight."

He got half his wish. Harrington, who was traded for Crawford in November, was given the Mike Dunleavy treatment in his first game back. From the moment the ex-Warrior was introduced in the Knicks' starting lineup, to every touch, dribble and rebound, fans let him hear it.

Harrington played along, egging on the crowd after his first basket and again after his three-pointer gave the Knicks a 64-63 with 30 seconds left in the second quarter.

Neither the swagger nor the lead lasted.

Harrington - matched against good friend Stephen Jackson most of the night - dominated the first half with 22 points but scored only two more as Jackson shut him down after the break.

Jackson led all players with a season-high 35 points and 10 assists - his third 30-10 outing in the last five games - and had nothing but compliments for Harrington afterward.

"Everybody knows that Al's going to come back with something on his mind," Jackson said. "When I go back to Indiana or Detroit, I want to have a good game if the fans boo you. But he came back and definitely responded well. As you can see, the boos didn't bother him at all."

In a game kindly described as a non-defensive free-for-all, both teams shot better than 54 percent from the field and 40 percent from long distance. The Warriors set an NBA high for points in a game and won a third straight at home for the first time this season.

It didn't quite make up for their mauling at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 29, when the Knicks dropped an arena-record 82 points in the first half of a 138-125 win, but it was at least a role reversal.

Whereas the Knicks ran the pick-and-roll between Chris Duhon and David Lee down the Warriors' throats in New York, Golden State lived off the same one-up play with Jackson, Crawford and Monta Ellis in the second half.

Crawford finished with 21 points and seven assists against his former team, and rookie Anthony Randolph sparked the Warriors with 12 points and seven rebounds in 14 minutes in his second straight game as the backup center with starter Andris Biedrins out.

Nate Robinson had 30 points off the bench for the Knicks, who were down Quentin Richardson bruised chest and lost both Tim Thomas and Duhon to injuries during the high-scoring affair.
