Bobcats keep Okafor with $72M deal

The Charlotte Bobcats ended a year of uncertainty with top rebounder and shot blocker Emeka Okafor by coming to terms on a six-year, $72 million deal with the restricted free agent.

The move comes a year after Okafor turned down a contract for similar money and assures new coach Larry Brown will have the team's top inside presence when he begins his record ninth NBA coaching job in the fall.

Warriors give big money to Biedrins, Ellis

The Golden State Warriors re-signed center Andris Biedrins to a six-year contract worth more than $62 million, retaining another restricted free agent and possibly capping a tumultuous month for the club.

Biedrins averaged career-highs with 10.5 points and 9.8 rebounds with the Warriors last season, his fourth with the club that drafted him with the 11th overall pick in 2004. He also led the NBA in field-goal percentage, making 62.6 percent of his shots.

The Warriors also made sure they would have Monta Ellis in their backcourt at least for the near future, re-signing the explosive guard to a six-year deal worth about $66 million.

Vujacic stays with Lakers for $15M

Had it been strictly a matter of economics, Sasha Vujacic would have left the Los Angeles Lakers to play in Europe. Turns out Vujacic's decision was based on more than just the money.

"I'm glad it worked out. Tough month," Vujacic said at team headquarters after signing a three-year, $15 million contract to return to the Lakers. "The only thing I can say is I'm happy to stay in L.A., I'm happy to stay with the Lakers. That was my first option. It would be hard to leave."

Hawks replace Childress with Evans

The Hawks completed their deal with Maurice Evans, locking up a replacement for sixth-man Josh Childress. The 6-foot-5 Evans started 47 times for the Orlando Magic last season and averaged a career-high 9.3 points. He was quickly targeted by Atlanta after Childress, a restricted free agent, stunned Atlanta last week by signing with Greek powerhouse Olympiakos.

Former No. 1 pick joins Pistons

Kwame Brown and the Detroit Pistons agreed to terms on a deal potentially worth $8 million over two seasons, team president of basketball operations Joe Dumars told the Associated Press. Sixers sign free-agent G Ivey

Guard Royal Ivey signed a multiyear contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. Ivey has averaged 4 points, 1.5 assists, 1.3 rebounds and 14.3 minutes in 263 games over four seasons in the NBA. A second-round pick by Atlanta in 2004, Ivey played three seasons with the Hawks and one in Milwaukee.

Warriors match Clippers' offer for Azubuike

Kelenna Azubuike will return to the Golden State Warriors after the club matched the Los Angeles Clippers' three-year, $9 million contract offer for the shooting guard. Azubuike averaged 8.1 points and 4.0 rebounds in 81 games last season with the Warriors, who signed the former Kentucky guard out of the NBA Developmental League in January 2007.
